Recently, I found an Atari STbook on eBay. It arrived in fair shape. One of the screen hinges was broken, and the screen latch was missing. It powered up, and after a few power attempts, I could hear the hard drive spinning up and I got the hard drive activity light. Unfortunately, I only got some random black lines on the screen. I sent it off to a fellow in Scotland who frequents Atari-Forum and has quite a bit of experience with this rare computer. He will hopefully get the screen working, replace the original hard drive with an adaptor and a compact flash card, and install a US TOS ROM (the STbook is the French version). He is also working on the possibility of adding a back-light sheet (as I understand it) to my STbook and a couple of others. It is always scary to send things off to another country like this, but I have done it twice with other projects and never had a problem. It just takes a long time.
I never thought I would find one of these computers. I guess only about 1000 were ever made. This photo is not my actual STbook. The photo is from old-computers.com.
